The new clinic!

The sign is up at 1156 Kingsway now!

(We’ll add some photos of the interior after we’ve actually moved in…)

We’re Moving!

After many delays in the renovation of our new clinic space, we are finally delighted to announce that we are moving this weekend!

We will be working in the new clinic as of Monday, October 7, 2019.

New Address: 1156 Kingsway (Unit 100) between Glen Drive and Inverness Avenue.

Parking: It was impossible to find a clinic space with a parking lot as large as our current one. However, we have excellent parking and accessibility at the new clinic

  • Kingsway parking:
    • Usually very available and close to our front entrance in the morning
    • Warning: Cars will be towed after 3pm, so…  just saying…
  • Off-street parking:
    • There is great parking availability in the quiet streets south of the clinic
  • Our parking lot behind the building!
    • We have 3 parking stalls behind our building (back alley access). There is wheelchair access to the clinic through the rear door.
    • Note1: The west parking stall is only for Chairstuff (our building partner)
    • Note2: Chairstuff uses the white roller door very regularly for deliveries and loading. Do not park there! However, it is fine to use that space for pick-up/drop-off.

What a year… so much happening! (new clinic soon!)

We haven’t been posting much over the last while – too busy!

Due to the sale of our building (and its upcoming demolition), we’ve been on the hunt for a new space. That isn’t the easiest task in Vancouver but we are delighted to now be working on renovating a new clinic only a few blocks from our current space! It will be sad to leave our bright and quite special clinic of nearly 10 years, but we hope the new place will quickly become a home for our patients and physios.

We’re hoping for a mid-late September move, but that depends on the renovation and permits being all complete. We’ll let you know ASAP!

Parkinson’s Exercise Classes – Neuro-Ability and PWR!Moves: Two new courses coming up, starting on Wednesday August 30th and Tuesday October 3rd

We are pleased to announce two new courses starting soon. These have proven to be very useful for those living with Parkinson’s Disease.

The series of classes follows the effective Parkinson’s Wellness Recovery approach (PWR!Moves) developed by Dr. Becky Farley, a physical therapist, neuroscientist and Parkinson exercise specialist. These classes directly target foundational skills shown by research to become impaired in PD and that interfere with everyday mobility.

Taught by our own Neuro-Ability physiotherapists who are certified in PWR!Moves instruction, the course involves two parts:

  1. One individual, 1 hour session with the physiotherapist instructing the series. You will be assessed and receive personal instruction to the specific PWR!moves that will allow you to maximize results.  This session will provide you with a personalized strategy to pursue during the group classes and at home.
    • This is not required if you have participated in a Neuro-Ability Parkinson’s Class in the last 8 months.
  2. Eight group classes (1 hour each) taught by Naomi Casiro and Steph Graetz, both are Neuro-Ability physiotherapists who are certified to instruct PRW!Moves

There will be two series starting soon:

  1. Tuesday Series: October 3 to November 21 (8 classes).
  2. Wednesday Series: August 30 to October 25 (8 classes).

For more information on the course and how to sign up, see Neuro-Ability Exercise Classes and contact reception@neuro-ability.ca (604-321-5807).

Physio can help: Neurological Conditions and Parkinson’s

Check out the Physiotherapy Association of BC (PABC) video about how physiotherapy can benefit those with Parkinson’s (and other neurological conditions): Physio can help: Neurological Conditions and Parkinson’s

The video highlights one of Neuro-Ability’s own physios: Naomi Casiro.

We run PRW!Moves courses at our clinic and as our space is limited, Naomi is developing her own programs using local gyms. For more information, see: Neuro-Ability Parkinson’s courses.
